Xinchao Counseling Center was established at the 25th of October
2006, after registering at the Industrial and Commercial Bureau,
Shanghai.
The scope of operation allowed by the bureau included psychological
counseling, general counseling and so on. (Details can be seen on

On December,2006, Xinchao Counseling Center finished construction
and opened to public. The address of the center is 631, Lingling
Road, XuHui. And the website registered was www.xinlinghuayuan.com.
Xinchao Counseling Center is the first formally established
counseling center in Shanghai with professional therapists, and the
oldest. By now, the center has operated for over eight years.
Currently, Xinchao Counseling Center is a member of the Chinese
psychotherapy and hypnosis Association, a member of the Chinese
Employee Assistance Program Research Center, a member of the
Shanghai Human Resources Association, and one of the first members
of the Shanghai Psychological Association. The therapists who were
trained at Xinchao now work in counseling centers all over Shanghai,
making Xinchao the incubator of professional therapists.
  
In January 2008, in order to serve not only those in need in
Shanghai, Xinchao established another branch in Suzhou. Afterwards,
to meet the increasing demand locally, branches of the center were
built one by one in Pudong, Huangpu and Yangpu, all in Shanghai.
 
In July, 2010, Shanghai FESC Psychological
Assistance Center was established. The scope of operation allowed
included psychological therapies, training courses, and researches.
GeGu (Gordon), a renowned therapist in Shanghai is the director of
the Assistance Center. Together with Xinchao Counseling Center, the
assistance center was granted ownership of the brand ‘Xinling
Garden�
All the therapists at Xinchao have level two national psychologist’s
certifyicate or above. They are all experienced, well educated,
professionally knowledgeable, and fluent in both English and
Chinese. Psychological services including individual therapies,
marriage and group therapists are provided to Chinese as well as to
Foreign visitors. The psychological problems that Xinchao can help
solve include, but are not limited to anxiety, depression, phobias,
compulsions, insomnia, eating disorders, adolescence syndrome,
paranoia, avoidance, dependence issues, social disorders,
personality disorders, work stress, relationship problems and family
issues. Patients with mild to mid-level mental illnesses can also
receive help and counseling at the center.
With years of experience, Xinchao Counseling Center made progresses
and break-through in many fields of counseling. It received the
titles of ‘the most professional and caring psychological center�
‘the best institution in service� �among the top 50 counseling
centers nation-wide�and so on by different government and
non-profit organizations.

Timeline of events:
On March, 2007, therapist GordonGu, joined a television show called
‘stories by A Qing� on which he listened to people’s problems and
answered their inquiries.
On May 2008, after the Wenchuan earthquake, therapists at Xinchao
lead by Gordon Gu formed a professional team and went to Wenchuan.
They provided crisis intervention to the survivors and the family of
the victims.
On June, 2009, Gordon Gu, the first chair therapist at Xinchao then,
stopped a teenage girl from killing herself at the sight, after
jumping to the place the minute he heard about it from the local
authority. His brave and successful rescue of the girl made the news
that year. The same year, therapists at the center went two times to
Xinjiang, after the violent incident in Xinjiang on July the fifth.
In 2010, during EXPO, Xinchao Counseling Center was assigned the
official on-site psychological service provider. Charity wise, the
center delivered newspapers to nine homes for the elderly in
Shanghai throughout the year, and it sent therapists to the fire
site on the 15thof November.
In July,2011, Gordon Gu again saved a man from jumping off the roof
minutes after the police called and took him to the site. On 23rd,
July, crisis intervention specialists at the center helped those who
suffered from a train accident get past their traumas.
In 2012, therapists from Xinchao Counseling Center went to
communities, and sponsored rejuvenations of the programs that were
designed to help the old, the childless, the dropouts, the
unemployed, and the parentless teenagers. The center received
numerousthank-you letters from the residents afterwards.
  
In 2013, Gordon Gu, a first chair therapist at Xinchao Counseling
Center , joined hosting the broadcasting show called Happy Family by
Shanghai Radio Station as an expert on family issues. Two days a
week, he provided a hotline to the public for those in need.
In 2014, Xinchaoorganized a Collaborative Helping Club, aiming both
at a long-term growth in visitors�awareness and understanding of
mental health, and at increased support for the low-income group who
are in need of help. In the same year, the total hours of therapy
annually at Xinchao surpassed 10,000 hours. No other counseling
center in Shanghai so far has managed to do the same. Moreover, in
2014, Xinchao came on the Second board (Quotation board), making it
the first counseling center to have done so nation wide.
Our aim is to make Xinchao Counseling Center the most professional,
and the most reliable platform for those in need of psychological
help; to achieve that goal, we have never stopped working towards
improvement, and we never will.
The values and meanings of Xinchao is not only defined by the
professional, dedicated therapists we have; they also are defined by
you, who support us and who benefit from what we have to offer.
In Chinese, the meaning of our brand ‘Xinchao� is a garden for
mental growth and blooming. There’s nothing we want more than to see
you bloom, and there’s nothing we wish more than to be the garden
that you trust, enjoy, and love.
